Felt Food Pattern and Tutorial for American Girl 18″ Doll sized Felt Pop-Tarts

Since I’m still in felt food making mode, Abby requested some American Girl Doll sized felt pop-tarts to go along with the doll sized felt cookies that I made for Paula her American Girl Doll.  I thought since you guys seemed to enjoy the doll sized cookie tutorial that I would do a tutorial and pattern for the pop-tarts as well.  So, here you go!  If you make some of the pop-tarts or cookies, I’d love to see your creations!  You can get reach me through the comments on any of my posts, or the e-mail link on the right hand side of your screen.

“Ingredients”:

Felt (one color for pop-tart, one color for frosting)
Embroidery Floss or thread
Fabric Pen
Scissors
Needle
Poly-fil
Beads (optional)

1. The first thing you’re going to want to do is to cut out your felt shapes.  I’ve provided a free felt food pattern (click here to download pdf file) or you can eyeball it if you’d like.  You’re going to need two of the same color felt for your pop-tart, and a different color of felt for the frosting.  For the frosting, since no two pop-tarts are alike, I traced the pattern onto my felt and cut out the rectangle.  Then I just kind of winged it until it looked like frosting.

2.  Sew frosting onto one of the pop-tarts.  I used a whip stitch that I learned how to do here, if you’ve got a different kind of stitch in mind, that’s cool too!

3. Once you’ve got your frosting sewn on,  stitch “sprinkles” onto your frosting with different colors of embroidery floss.  You can also use beads or leave it plain.

3. Place your pop-tart pieces together and sew along the edges.  I prefer a blanket stitch, but once again use whatever you’re comfortable with.  When you’re almost done sewing, fill your felt pop-tart with stuffing and finish it off.  That’s it, you’re done!

Thanks for your ideas and inspiration. I made a set of heart-shaped cookies for my daughter and her dolls for Valentine’s Day. I posted here and linked back to your site if you’d like to take a look.

I don’t know what I did wrong when trying to make that link to the post. Sorry about that. If I may try again, the post is here.
