Isn’t He Cute When He’s Sleeping?

Miles PASSED OUT on the couch after decorating Easter Eggs and running around with his cousins.
(Please excuse the “I need a haircut” do he’s rocking.  He’s not a fan of getting his hair done so
I go as long as I possibly can between his haircuts!)

Miles has ALWAYS been a horrible sleeper.  When he was a baby the Dr told me that some babies just don’t sleep very well and he would probably grow out of it.  After he was diagnosed with Autism though I attributed his abnormal sleeping patterns to that and was hopeful that something out there would work for him.  I’ve tried different bedtime routines, melatonin, aromatherapy, soothing sounds cd’s ..  and just about every other non-sleeping pill alternative out there.  Nothing has worked so far and it’s become something that I just deal with.  So if I ramble on like a crazy person sometimes, it’s because I haven’t slept in almost 4 years and am exhausted all of the time!

  3. I love the little finger still in his mouth. They are so beautiful when they are asleep. :) I’ve got light sleepers, too, and feel like I am doomed to not get a good night’s rest until they’ve all gone off to college! Right now we are trying to figure out what to do with our ADHD son who can’t fall asleep at bedtime anymore…. Back to the psychiatrist to discuss more options. *sigh* :)

Everyone tells me you get used to not sleeping. I think it’s a load of crap they tell us so we don’t go crazy due to lack of sleep though, lol.

I haven’t slept through the night in 11 years now! I don’t think I would be able to, even if I got the chance.

You probably are on the look out for helpful material that comes out on autistic children but my daughter (who works with children) recently told me about a book she read that she said really helped her understand autistic children. Maybe you’ve already heard of it ..Louder Than Words… but just in case you haven’t here is a link for a description… http://search.barnesandnoble.com/Louder-Than-Words/Jenny-McCarthy/e/9780452289802/
